A major Scottish egg producer faces a challenging situation as it grapples with a third avian flu outbreak. This recent development has prompted the establishment of a 1.8-mile (3km) protection zone around the affected site in West Linton, owned by Glenrath Farms. The farm's operations have been significantly impacted, with biosecurity measures and movement restrictions in place since the initial cases of avian influenza were confirmed just before Christmas. This outbreak marks the fifth affected farm in the area, with another outbreak confirmed near Blairgowrie in the past month. Glenrath Farms, a family-owned business since 1959, has seen its operations expand to become one of the UK's leading egg production and marketing companies, producing over a million eggs daily. Despite the concerning situation, Scotland's deputy chief veterinary officer, Jesus Gallego Garnica, assures that the impact on egg supplies is likely to be minimal, as the number of affected farms represents only a small fraction of the total egg sales in the UK.
