Get ready for a thrilling journey as we delve into the world of cinema and the rising star, Alfie Williams! The young actor from Newcastle is making waves in the industry, and his latest venture is sure to leave you on the edge of your seat.
Williams, a talented teenager, has returned to his role as Spike in the highly anticipated horror franchise, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple. This time, he's joined by an impressive cast, including the legendary Ralph Fiennes and Jack O'Connell, both Bafta Award winners. But here's where it gets controversial... the sequel, directed by Nia Dacosta, took the majority of its filming locations right here in the UK, specifically across Northumberland, North Yorkshire, and Cumbria.
For Williams, now 15, this experience has been life-changing. He describes it as "the best apprenticeship" into the world of filmmaking, where he's not only learned the craft but also made lifelong friends with the talented crew and cast. "I've been incredibly fortunate to learn so much from these incredible people," he shares.
The Bone Temple is the fourth installment in the series, which began with the iconic 28 Days Later back in 2002. And this is the part most people miss... the impact of this film franchise on the UK's film industry, especially in the North East. With filming locations like Chopwell Wood in Gateshead and Plankey Mill in Northumberland, the region has seen a massive 131% jump in film production over the last three years, making it one of the fastest-growing film hubs in the UK.
Gayle Woodruffe, operations director at North East Screen, a film agency that helped with the production, says, "These shoots have put our region on the map as a top filming destination. It's raised our ambitions and the interest from filmmakers worldwide."
The Bone Temple hit cinemas on Wednesday, and Williams is calling it the "scariest" installment yet. When asked about his future, he's clear: "This is a career I'm passionate about and want to continue. I dream of walking the red carpet at award ceremonies, holding an Oscar or a BAFTA. I want it all!"
So, what do you think? Is this young actor's ambition inspiring, or is it a bit too much? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
